Training updates
-753986.jpg)
I will be training this week to be a wellness coach at the Presidio Branch YMCA, and have been in contact wth the Lucas Fitness Center to get into their book for personal training. I like the idea there, they have a bunch of biographies of the trainers, and the client sorts through the selections and choose the one that best matches their needs.
I also took my first cardio-kickboxing class on Thurs. night. I always thought that it would be lame, it's great for HJ though I think lots of A-motion stuff for track, and a bunch of hopping around (plyos) so I"m going to go to that class on days I don't hoop at lunch.
I also helped out this week with medicine balls on the circuit training class, and it was pretty fun, I think I would like to teach it.
The best news though is that Scott got a comment card recommending me to teach on Fridays fitness and bodyworks it was a really nice compliment, and shows me I'm learning and am giving people what they need.
Regarding my own training I'm in week 9 of the cycle finishing up with low reps (4x4) and high weight (295 squat and dead lift, 185 hang cleans, 205 hang pulls and 185 stepups and lunges). I plan to speed lift next week (or maybe just test on monday) My goals are 315 deadlift, 350 Squat, 215 clean...all those seem completely do-able.
I would like to get my squats up to 2.4 x body-weight which would be about 396 lbs. I need to get a good spotter, and a mercury switch squat monitor, because I think I am going too shallow...I really need to focus on that when I start back at 65% after the tests.
I'm 160 right now, hoping to get a few more lbs of muscle. I have really been focusing on eating more healthily, cutting out a bit more access sweets, and keeping track on my food pyramid...I have really been into yogurt and granola...as evidenced by the pic...

I'm pretty sure this is why we jump too...*It's all about the ladies.*
7. I want to go back for a second to what we talked about earlier, and ask you that if running sucks so much —
Yeah, but it does. There’s a reason why in every other sport, their punishment is running. I mean, let’s be serious.
Okay, then why are you still doing it? Why put yourself through all that? What’s the payoff for you?
It’s kind of weird. I usually answer that question by saying “well, I’m good.” I get a lot out of that. I enjoy being good at something.
But you could get good at poker, and then you wouldn’t have to do all this running around.
I guess running is mostly for the women.
The women?
Yeah, the women. And the rock and roll lifestyle.
I know exactly what you’re talking about. Have you heard from Kate Boyles recently?
Off the record?
Off the record.
[SCENE MISSING]
I don’t know, I guess I like running.

I'm stoked...ran 5k on the treadmill at 5:30 pace...Also swam twice this week, and got all four lifts in.
Today I missed the swimming and the lift, though I am definitely seeing improvements accross the board. I'm really working on eating less sweets, and increasing the level of fruit and veggies I consume every day. Recently I've really been into spinach...it's kinda like green styrofoam that's good for you...
In other news the weight is pretty steady between 160-163, I would like to add a bit more muscle to get up to a lean 165, just like I was my last year of CU.
Main issues I've had recently, are not getting in enough hip flexiblility drills in, and just general warm ups are going by the wayside. I've got to be good about it and just do 'em.

AHHHHHHH! The Real Sting (ing) Poomps!
I was looking up our namesake, and goodness, look what I found...
Name: Poomps
Series: Aaahh!!! Real Monsters
Subseries: Basic Figures
Year Released: 1995
Height: 1.5 inches
Description: This bumpy lump of a monster showers unsuspecting victims with slime. Squeeze and release under water to fill his slime spines. Now give him a pump and watch the water jump!
How amazing is that??!?! Slime spines, with which to sting, and with a name like Poomps, it's got to be good...(Bonus points for anyone who can buy one of these)
